Supermarket chain Kroger has finalized a nearly $1.4 billion agreement to settle the majority of the claims made by states, counties and Native American tribes that accused the company of helping fuel the opioid epidemic.

Kroger, the parent company of Ralphs, agreed to pay up to $122 to California to resolve allegations that it failed to adequately monitor opioids distributed by its pharmacies.

The settlement is part of a national agreement announced last year. The grocery chain will pay a total of $1.37 billion to settle claims by 30 states related to the opioid crisis.
